All owners of American style refrigerators will have to replace their water filter at least once every six months. However, the first question most people ask themselves, or should ask themselves, is “How do you measure the quality of the water filter?”

The quality of all water filtering systems is measured in microns or micrometers (µ). This unit is equivalent to one thousandth of a millimeter (0.001mm).  We declare for all our filters how many microns the filtering system is.

Based on this unit there are different quality filters that can be purchased.

For example, a water pitcher filter can be used to remove the following –

  • Hair (100 microns)
  • Pollen (20 microns)
  • Lead (10 microns)

The next level of water filter uses the medium Carbon Granules. These filters can be used to remove –

  • Solvents (5 microns)

The best quality filter in the market place today is one which uses Carbon Blocks. These filters can be used to remove all of the above and –

  • Salmonella (0.5 microns)
  • Copper (0.5 microns)

It is therefore clear that you need to pay close attention to the QUALITY of the water filter when looking for a replacement.
